At a glance The three updates Questions & answers How we can pray

Dear New Life family,

Thank you for listening and sharing your questions. Here is a summary of the three updates and answers to the questions raised, as we take these steps together with faith and care.

At a glance

Three important updates

Three steps in our life together as part of Saesoon Church.

01

Welcoming Pastor Samuel Lee

Pastor Samuel and his wife, Eunjung, will join us once visa and relocation arrangements are complete.

02

Faithful financial stewardship

From 2027, our giving will fund New Life's budget, with approval from Saesoon's Session.

03

Greater care for PG2

Our pastors will help with preaching at Saesoon's senior high school ministry.

We remain one church family. New Life continues as part of Saesoon, sharing in its ministry and care for the next generation.

The three updates

Looking ahead, together

A summary of the announcements from Pastor Young and Simon Kim.

01Pastoral care

Welcoming our associate pastor

Shared by Pastor Young

Pastor Samuel Lee has been appointed as our full-time associate pastor, fulfilling a hope shared at our church meeting three years ago. He brings ministry experience from Japan, the United States and Korea.

He and his wife, Eunjung, hope to arrive in late November or early December 2026, subject to visa approval, housing and relocation. The original early November target has shifted. Please pray for their transition and welcome them warmly.

We are grateful to Saesoon's Korean Ministry (KM) for covering his visa and relocation costs and remuneration through the end of 2026.

02Stewardship

Taking greater responsibility for New Life's finances

Shared by Simon Kim on behalf of New Life Team Leader Kevin (KK) Kim

From 2027, New Life's budget will be based on our own tithes and offerings. It will cover our pastors, ministry intern and ministry activities, with 10% of our giving contributed to KM for facilities and shared costs.

Previously, the Session set our budget without directly linking it to New Life's giving. We will now take greater responsibility for preparing and managing it, while the Session continues to approve the annual budget.

A New Life Finance Team has been established. Banking, financial controls and expenditure approvals are still being finalised.

This change grew out of discussions about Pastor Samuel's appointment and our involvement in PG2. As New Life approaches its 25th anniversary in 2027, we want to honour this trust with generosity, transparency and wise stewardship.

03Next generation

Growing in our care for PG2

Shared by Pastor Young

Pastor Young described New Life and Saesoon as one household: a family that has cared for us and whose younger generations we can now help nurture.

Pastor Young and Pastor Samuel will share preaching at PG2, with support from Ministry Intern Steve. For now, the formal responsibility is preaching; wider pastoral oversight would require the Session's direction.

PG2 has been without a regular pastor for several months. We are grateful to its teachers for their faithful care and hope more New Life members will consider serving alongside them.

As Jesus reminds us in Matthew 9:37–38, we are to pray for workers for the harvest. Please pray that we will serve our young people with love and help their faith grow.

What has been agreed

  • Pastor Samuel has been appointed as New Life's full-time associate pastor.
  • The Session has approved a new financial stewardship arrangement for 2027.

  • New Life's pastors will support preaching for PG2.

What is still being worked out

Getting to know Pastor Samuel

5 questions
Who is Pastor Samuel?

Pastor Samuel Lee is 35 and joins us as a full-time associate pastor. He has served in Japan, the United States and Korea. He and his wife, Eunjung, do not currently have children. Pastor Young values his experience, commitment to pastoral care and sense of ministry as a calling.

Where did he study, and does his theology align with New Life?

He studied at Talbot School of Theology and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and Pastor Young have found substantial common ground, including on the local church and presbytery. Pastor Young sees their differences as opportunities for fruitful discussion.

Why appoint a New Life associate pastor rather than a PG2 pastor?

New Life has long needed another full-time pastor to share the care of our congregation. Pastor Samuel applied specifically to New Life. He and Pastor Young will also help with PG2 preaching.

When will he arrive?

The hope is late November or early December 2026, subject to visa approval, housing and relocation. The original target was early November. No date is confirmed, and he and Eunjung will need time to settle in.

What will his responsibilities be?

He will share pastoral care, preaching and teaching with Pastor Young, including preaching at PG2. Pastor Young will continue to lead in many areas; the detailed division of responsibilities will be agreed after Pastor Samuel arrives. Please welcome him into your lives and receive his pastoral care.

Caring for PG2 and the next generation

9 questions
When will PG2 preaching begin, and how long will it continue?

The arrangement is expected to begin when Pastor Samuel arrives, but the start date is unconfirmed. It is intended to continue until a permanent PG2 pastor is appointed or the Session directs otherwise. Pastor Young and Pastor Samuel will share preaching; Steve remains a ministry intern.

Does this include pastoral oversight, camps and other PG2 activities?

For now, New Life's formal responsibility is preaching. Wider oversight, including events, camps and other activities, would require the Session's direction. Pastoral conversations, prayer and encouragement may naturally arise through this ministry.

Who will fund PG2 and its future pastor?

PG2 and New Life will retain separate budgets. PG2's expenses and a future permanent pastor will not be funded by New Life's budget. The Session is responsible for the pastor search; PG2 is not coming under New Life's financial or organisational control.

How will the pastors manage the extra workload?

Pastor Young's workload is already full. He is developing a roster to share Sunday preaching sustainably, and responsibilities will become clearer over the coming months.

How can New Life members and ministries support PG2?

Please consider serving our younger brothers and sisters alongside the wider Saesoon church. Closer connections in discipleship and training are welcome, though no further arrangements are confirmed. Support for PG remains a whole-church responsibility, with care for volunteers' other commitments.

Will current and future PG2 teachers receive training?

We hope to offer discipleship and theological training, potentially using structures and Bible study material similar to Life Group Leader training. No programme or timeline has been confirmed.

Will PG2 merge with New Life or join its Sunday service?

No. PG2 will retain its senior high school service. A combined service is not possible under current space and scheduling arrangements. We do hope to give Year 12 students more opportunities to visit New Life as they prepare for their next stage.

Will PG1 and PG2 have separate services?

Yes. They will have separate services. Further timing and implementation details have not been confirmed here.

Who will oversee PG1?

PG1 is outside New Life's announced responsibilities. It is expected to come under Pastor Dowan Kim within Sunday School, but details are still being worked through. Please direct questions about PG1 leadership to Saesoon's elders.

Finances and stewardship

9 questions
What will New Life's giving fund from 2027?

Our giving will fund pastors' remuneration, the ministry intern stipend and New Life ministries, including Children's Ministry. KM will no longer fund part of our regular budget; instead, we will contribute 10% of our tithes and offerings to KM for shared costs. The Session will continue to approve our annual budget.

Where have our offerings gone in the past?

Saesoon's offerings have historically gone into one church account, supporting staff, missions, ministry budgets and the mortgage. Since 2021, New Life's giving has covered one pastor at the applicable pay scale and our allocated ministry budget. Giving has grown each year.

Can current giving cover the new budget?

Only just, based on last year's figures. Giving can support two pastors at an updated pay scale, a modest intern stipend and ministry budgets, with little margin for unexpected costs. Ministry directors are reviewing spending. For detailed figures, please speak with Team Leader Kevin (KK) Kim.

What if giving falls short?

The contingency process is still being developed. The Finance Team has considered stable giving and changes of around 15% in either direction. We aim to monitor income and spending and adjust early, likely by reducing planned expenditure first. Outside support may be needed in exceptional circumstances, but arrangements are unconfirmed.

Must members give more, or meet a minimum amount?

No fixed increase or minimum has been set, including for costs such as meals. Please do not give to the point of being unable to afford food or taking on debt. Giving is part of discipleship: gratitude, trust and generosity. Pastor Young does not track individual giving and welcomes personal conversations about it.

Will New Life have more say over spending and future ministry?

Yes. Preparing a budget around our own income and needs should allow more responsive planning, within Saesoon's structures and Session approval. Sound financial processes come first; no major new initiatives are approved. Possibilities include strengthening ministries, appropriate staff remuneration, additional staffing and future interns, subject to resources and careful planning.

Will members receive financial reports and budget comparisons?

The Finance Team hopes to provide regular updates showing how giving and spending compare with the budget. The timing, format and level of detail are still being considered.

How will financial accountability be maintained?

The Finance Team oversees New Life's finances and accountability arrangements. New Life's expenditure has already been audited for six consecutive years.

Could we hold more ministry fundraisers?

Possibly. Saesoon's church-wide decision against Sunday fundraising still applies. Fundraisers on other days may be considered with the wider church.

Our life together as a church

5 questions
How can we serve Saesoon if we are not confident in Korean?

Please approach serving with patience, humility and a willingness to try. Translation tools can help; Pastor Young uses them in Korean-language meetings. We hope to welcome one another across language differences and serve in FG, KG, PG and other Saesoon ministries.

Will there be courses for newcomers and people exploring Christianity?

We hope to offer both, potentially alongside a clearer membership process and opportunities for members to help. Pastor Young and Pastor Samuel first need to settle their responsibilities and assess capacity. No programme or start date is confirmed.

Will leaders receive theological and discipleship training?

We want our discipleship ministry to grow in depth as well as breadth. Training for those who mentor others is important, and we hope to develop a sustainable approach as pastoral capacity becomes clearer.

Will New Life's Sunday service change?

No changes to the existing order of worship have been announced.

Are there plans to plant a church?

There are no concrete plans or proposed dates. Church planting remains part of an earlier long-term vision. For now, we are focusing on a healthy church culture and Christlike character, trusting God's timing.

Prayer and pastoral encouragement

2 questions
How can we pray for the transition?

Pray for Pastor Samuel and Eunjung's visas, housing, relocation and settling in; for sustainable workloads for the pastoral team; and for wisdom for Simon and other leaders. Pray for unity, generous listening and trust across New Life and Saesoon.

How is Pastor Young feeling, and how can we pray for him?

He is hopeful about investing in future generations. He also recognises his tendency to overthink and overplan. Pray that he will rest in God, trust the Lord's work and lead with peace. Pray that all of us will hold our preferences humbly and seek the good of the whole church.

As one church family

Let's keep praying together

With gratitude for those who have cared for New Life, please pray for our next steps together.

For Pastor Samuel and Eunjung

Visa approval, housing, safe relocation and a warm welcome into our church family.

For wise stewardship

Integrity, transparency, generosity and wisdom for the Finance Team and Session.

For PG2 and its leaders

Strength for teachers, sustainable pastoral care and growing faith among our young people.

For unity within Saesoon

Mutual understanding, patient listening, humility and love across generations and ministries.

Thank you for being part of New Life. We will share further details as plans are confirmed. May we move forward with love and trust in God's faithfulness.
